Dementia Fair

Presents:

A Fresh Approach to Living Well with Dementia

A virtual dementia fair for our community

January 12, 1 – 4:30 PM

Why attend another dementia event?

Many seminars cover dementia research and caregiving tips from experts, however, very few include the true experts on the topic, people actually living with the condition.

When their voices are not included, we may focus only on what is lost and miss that many people are living well with brain changes. Join us for a conversation about practical tips for highlighting moments of joy, connection and pleasure at all stages of dementia.

This free event includes presentations from people living well with dementia, tips on positive approaches for care partners, and takeaways for medical professionals to make our community more dementia friendly and inclusive.

Living with dementia can be very challenging, but there are ways to thrive at every stage. Life is better when we are honoring lived experience, highlighting resilience, and learning to live well with dementia.

For Persons Living with Brain Change or Dementia

Amplifying Stories and Honoring Experiences

While many seminars and papers cover research about dementia, and what caregiving for someone in the late stages of the disease can look like, very few actually focus on the experience. That’s where we– and you — come in.

During our event you’ll have the opportunity to hear from those who are actively living with brain change and ask them questions about their experiences.

There is incredible value to be found at every stage of life. Through volunteering, enjoying family and friends, and contributing to the community, life can be better when we come together and share our experiences.

For Family, Friends, and Caregivers

Dementia Living, Not Just Dementia Care

According to the World Health Organization, there are 10 million new dementia diagnoses every year. Learning someone close to you is living with dementia can be a worrisome experience. It’s important to remember that there can still be growth and life through dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Association says that “people with dementia can live well at all stages with the right support”.

Studies estimate that 1 in 5 people are directly impacted by brain change — whether living with dementia or by providing support to someone. Understanding how we can all create more meaning, joy and deeper connectedness can help us thrive. Join us to learn more about positive ways to help yourself and others live well through dementia.

For Professionals

Making an ImPACt with your work

As we elevate the voices of those with lived experience and wisdom, our event will offer information for medical professionals and other professionals who interact with people living with brain change.

We hope you’ll join us on this journey of adjusting the way we look at and talk about dementia diagnosis to better support those in our community living with dementia.

We’ve partnered with Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care (PAC) and The National Council of Dementia Minds to offer you insights on how to support people living with dementias in finding hope, meaning and resources.
