Celebrating Older Americans Month: Powered by Connection
Staying connected becomes even more vital to our overall well-being as we age. Older Americans Month allows us to recognize the contributions and accomplishments of older adults in our communities. At LifeCircles PACE, we are dedicated to helping you age in place and understand the significance of fostering meaningful relationships and social connections.
Recognizing Older Americans Month
Older Americans Month is an annual observance led by the Administration for Community Living (ACL). The theme for 2024 is “Powered by Connection,” which emphasizes the impact of meaningful relationships and social connections on our health and well-being. This month matters because we believe in the power of human connection and its role in supporting independence.
Studies have shown that frequent social interaction and meaningful relationships can have great cognitive benefits and reduce the risk of dementia as we age. That’s why we make it our priority for you to continue living in your homes, stay active in your communities, and provide the opportunity for new connections.
When you have access to all these things, you experience improved physical, mental, and emotional well-being. By celebrating Older Americans Month and embracing the theme of “Powered by Connection,” we’re also celebrating our core values of the importance of social connections in our participants’ lives.
The Benefits of Connection for Older Adults
- Staying socially engaged, participating in community events, and connecting with others can improve mental and emotional well-being.
- Strong community connections provide access to support systems, transportation services, and resources that can help you maintain your independence.
- Promoting and fostering connections can combat loneliness and create a support network.
As May comes to a close and summer begins, we use Older Americans Month as a reminder to stay engaged. This is a great time to connect through LifeCircles resources. Join us at our Day Centers for activities, socialization, and community. Don’t forget that we can provide transportation to and from our Day Centers. We’re here to help you grow within your community.
